Okay, I’ve possibly jumped the gun a little. But I’m very excited and proud to have found out that The Road To Qatar is one of 12 musicals nominated for an MTN Award.
From Whatsonstage.com:
‘These awards, previously known as the Musical Theatre Matters Awards, aim to highlight the best new musical theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Caroline Routh, executive producer for Musical Theatre Network said: “Here at MTN we are keen to broaden the conversation about what musical theatre can be and so we are very excited about the diversity of work that our nominated shows demonstrate between them. It’s also great to see so many new shows of real quality being created.”
The shows nominated are being considered for Best Book, Best Music, Best Lyrics and Best Musical and the winners will be announced on 22 August at the New Town Theatre, George Street.’
While I was in Edinburgh I saw some of the other nominated shows and they were really exciting, so it’s lovely to be noticed amongst so much strong work.
Wish us luck. In the meantime I have heard that my cast have already been practicing acceptance speeches and walking in their ballgowns without tripping over..
(N.B. The photo accompanying this post is a humorous reminiscence of what the Qatar Gang looked like at 8am after completing their THIRD four hour tech session in 24 hours. I do not trust lighting desks, I do not like staying awake for 24 hours. The pancake breakfast we had in Garfunkels kind of made up for it.)
